Friendship Park, 2012
single-channel video, 38 minutes
dimensions variable
Single channel video that explores the bi-national Friendship Park that straddles the San Diego/Tijuana border.
The video oscillates between footage of a cluttered desktop, performances staged at the Friendship Park (an astrological reading of the park, a surfer surfing alongside the border pylons, etc.), and archival footage of Pat Nixon at the park.
The video is held together by the fragmented narration that runs through it. The narration moves through familial history, the development of surfboard technology, the U.S. war in Vietnam, and the U.S./Mexico border, intimating connections along the way.
